Count 'em Up Thursday

Good afternoon,

And once again thanks to Emma, Catherine and Hilaire for helping out with the paper bataki this afternoon!

Next step is to scrunch them all up, then flatten them down, three times before applying dye.

This morning, after a bit of prayerful meditation...

...Room 2 were using tally charts to identify which of five colours was Room 2's favourite. So first we had to limit our choice to just five.

Right, next thing was for the children to actually gather the data themselves, so we tried our first ever doughnut.

Which was going swimmingly...until I realised that each half of the doughnut had yet to ask themselves, so...back to the "pile in, ask each other member of your group!"

Results...next week!

Please remember that we're at Mass in the morning. 9:15 start. Full school uniform please.

Cat Stat Wednesday

Good afternoon,

And thanks Angela and Emma for your invaluable help this afternoon, I couldn't have done it without you!

This morning we continued working with the data we created yesterday...

The children were to, well...

...sort the data, make sensible statements about it, and record those statements on Show Me, via the iPads.

Not bad for a first effort. Sorry Justin, Saul and Tara - Show Me didn't have permission to use the mic on Room 1's iPad...which I only found out once you'd gone out to morning tea.

More tomorrow,

Mr Grant

Indoor Tuesday

Good afternoon,

Not much that much to share really. This morning we tried some Liturgical Dance as part of our "different ways to pray" topic, but I was too busy "modelling" to take any video! Just as well I was - making up a dance on the spot is really tricky!

Anyway, if anyone wants to give it a go at home, this is the music we used.

After lunch, and singing in R11, and as it was jolly cold outside, R2 exercised their key competencies while I was finishing up some reading assessments with a couple of children from Ma reading group (who all did really well).

And a good time was had by all!

Third Day Monday

Good afternoon,

And welcome to Term 3.

This morning we kicked off with a new statistics unit - Greedy Cat.

For this week for R.E. we're looking at imaginative prayer.

We sang today...

...we'll dance tomorrow and so on.

We also started revisiting recounts. By the end of the year the Year 2s hope to be producing recounts of similar quality to the following ministry approved exemplar...

Recount Exemplar - Fishing Lines

After lunch we dived in to the first of our Art Attack lessons - mixing colours.

Very many thanks to Hilaire for helping out, I kinda hadn't got anything ready in time!

And a good time was had by all!

Thanks for the invite,

Doxology Wednesday

Good afternoon,

And have a lovely holiday. I'm not in tomorrow or Friday...opps, I forgot to say goodbye to the children...

Anyway, another busy day was had here in Room 2. A bit of writing...

...and a short doxology...

...recited in 4/4 time.

Thanks for your support over the term, have a relaxing and safe break, and I'll see you all on Monday the 21st of July. A week later than I told you in the newsletter!

Competition Tuesday

Good afternoon,

This morning, for reading, Kahurangi read their text with us, The Competition.

They did really well, considering that they had only had one run through, and no practice for their performance.

Sorry for the quality of the green-screening, the lighting is such that it only really works with one child at a time...

Oh, and speaking of things kinda worked, but then again kinda didn't work, technology wise, we had a short Skype conversation with Aaron over in Perth, just before lunch and breakfast respectively as part of our Media Magic topic. We'll try again next term - perhaps by then we might have our SNUP/fibre upgrade, which I expect will improve the connection.

I wonder if you can record Skype conversations...and I wonder if a Google Hangout might not work better...though I don't think Hangouts work on iPads...but then again, we are getting an old laptop from the pod to run the board, and that'll have a webcam...hmmm...

Anyway, have a great evening, and I'll catch up with those who I didn't catch up with last night tomorrow. Please remember that school finishes at 2 tomorrow.
