Writing Wednesday

Good afternoon,

This morning Room 2 started a wee writing assessment based on "I heard a whisper..."

They are producing some pretty cool stuff.

Before they knew it the goblins let out the angry terrifying big scary bears.

...they packed their bags and set off for an adventure.

A long time ago in a land far away lived a good girl and a good boy.

...the girls weren't aloud in the forest because a goblin might snatch them up for dinner.

But just then she heard a whisper. The whisper was big. The whisper was clear so Emma could hear...

The wolf was frightening. "ROAR!" yelled the wolf.

...the green grass like a big fat tree started to shake.

...they heard a whisper. They turned around...

...were on a search for the blue crystal...some goblins whispered "come with me"...

They said to Alice their pet wolf "can you hear something whispering?"...

...the boy heard a whisper. It led him to a deep dark forest...

They came to a cliff. Aaron heard someone whisper "Come down here."

(Punctuation not withstanding!)

P.E. Tuesday

Good afternoon,

After a spot of writing...

...Room 2 popped outside to enjoy the afternoon sunshine for some P.E.

And a good time was had by all.

I am currently rejigging some of the reading groups, and we're probably going to end up with 5, so...Kahurangi and Ma groups may have their number of lessons with me cut down from three a week to...two...unless anyone wants to volunteer their time once a week some time between 11:15 and 12:25 Monday to Thursday...?

I'm still crunching the numbers and the timetable.

Absent Monday

Good afternoon,

While I've been out of the room being...well, fairly productive...Mrs Grant had a lovely time with Room 2 today.

Including a great R.E. session.

Thursday's Thursday

Good evening.

Sorry for the late update.

This afternoon, after a touch of R.E....

...we continued to learn a bit about some of the things we'll be looking at at Ferrymead tomorrow.

This last one we're still using in the class.

Can you guess what it is?

Yes, it's the data projector!

As for tomorrow...
  • Sports gear
  • Water bottle
  • Food in a named plastic bag

Morse Code Wednesday

Good afternoon,

This afternoon we had a fascinating lesson about one of these.

We will be seeing one at Ferrymead on Friday.

Used for long distance communication.

A Morse Code switch.

The children's task for this evening is to translate their own names into morse code using this...

It's worth 100 House Points if they can show me in the morning.

Oh, and speaking of Ferrymead...

Dear Parents/Caregivers,

A reminder about our trip to Ferrymead tomorrow, Friday the 23rd of May.
Please be at school by 9am as the buses will be leaving promptly, just after 9am.

Please remember to send along your child’s morning tea and lunch in a named bag. They will also need their drink bottles.

Sports gear is to be worn. This activity will still go ahead if it is raining, your child will need their school jersey/polarfleece and a rain jacket if needed.

Thank you very much for the many offers of parent help for this trip. Our parent helpers have been informed.

Kind regards,
Rutherford Team teachers

Earlier in the day, they were all carrying on like spiders and scorpions.

'Twas a fitness activity.

And a good time was had by all!

And this just in...a Morse Code translator!

Tuesday's Extras

Good afternoon,

This afternoon we had a few bods from Room 11 join us as Mrs Carroll whizzed off for a bit of Jump Jam PD.

So, after team singing...

...they also joined us for some introductory ball skills.

They were so quiet compared to some of ours!

Earlier in the morning, Whero reading group shared Bang! with us, which I green screened.

The end result isn't quite as smooth as I'd like it, but...I'm still learning!

Have a nice night,

Mr Grant

Parent Help For Ferrymead

Good afternoon,

Just remembered that I said I'd draw the "winner" for who gets to help at Ferrymead this Friday.

Well, the lucky person just happens to be...

...Karin Cook!

Congradulations. I think.

No Photos Monday

Good afternoon,

Today my camera stayed in my pocket all day! Pity really, I could have got some good shots of the children bashing each other with noodles at lunch time, but by the time I thought about it, the PALs were packing them away.

After lunch we continued our learning about the Holy Spirit...

Then we started our new topic, Media Magic...

...the first task for which was to list all the different ways that the children could think of of how to communicate.

Funday Friday

Good afternoon,

'ts getting a bit nippy out there now...specially after a very close haircut!

This morning, during out Te Reo lesson, I learnt something. We were counting, and I was able to explain 99 (tekau ma iwa), but...what's 100? So, we looked it up. Kotahi rau. Ah, ok, but...why? So...

Well, there you go!

Then, on to a touch of poetry.

Speaking of reading, once again Room 6 joined us in the library...

...subsequent from a quick art lesson.

And a good time was had by all!

Have a great weekend,

Mr Grant
